Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera: the lowdown
Lighter, faster, louder: the most exciting Gallardo yet seems to tick every box. The limited edition baby Lambo – around 350 cars will be built over the next couple of years – was conceived as the ultimate small supercar and a genuine rival for Ferrari’s hardcore Challenge Stradale models, the next of which, the F430, arrives early next year. Prices are still to be confirmed but are expected to be around 10 per cent higher than the standard car, which would make the Superleggera £143,000.

The latest extension (literally) to the Fiat 500 range – the Fiat 500L MPW – has gone on sale in the UK so lovers of Fiats appealing 500 can still get their fix even if they have a Brady Bunch sized family. A stretched version of the already stretched Fiat 500L, the 500L MPW (which gets the 500L Living badge outside the UK) isn’t a true 7-seater, but does get two extra occasional seats in the boot for transporting the smallest members of your brood when needed.
The federal cash-for-guzzlers program continues to operate this morning despite dealer reports that it was to be suspended at midnight last night because it was approaching its $1 billion limit. "It is not suspended," a White House spokeswoman, who asked not to be named, said in an interview today. "We continue to assess the program and its budget."
National Automobile Dealers Association spokesman Bailey Wood said Thursday that the group had been told by Transportation Department officials of plans to suspend the program after just six days.
